Simple Slow Cooker Chicken Recipe
Ingredients:
-
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
-
1 cup chicken broth (or water)
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1 teaspoon onion powder
-
1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for added richness)
-
Optional: Add vegetables like carrots, potatoes, or onions for a one-pot meal!
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts with garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. You can also add any other seasonings or marinades you like (BBQ sauce, Italian seasoning, etc.).
-
Add to the Slow Cooker: Place the seasoned chicken in the slow cooker. If you’re adding vegetables, place them in the bottom of the cooker first, then top with the chicken.
-
Add Liquid: Pour the chicken broth (or water) over the chicken. This helps keep it moist while cooking.
-
Cook: Cover and cook on low for about 6-7 hours or high for 3-4 hours. The chicken should be fully cooked and shred easily with a fork when done.
-
Optional: If you want shredded chicken, simply pull it apart with two forks. You can also drizzle the cooking juices over the chicken or use them as a base for a sauce.
Tips:
-
You can add vegetables like carrots, potatoes, or onions to the slow cooker along with the chicken for a complete meal.
-
For extra flavor, try adding a few sprigs of rosemary, lemon slices, or a tablespoon of soy sauce for an umami boost.
-
Frozen chicken can be used as well; just be sure to add an extra 1-2 hours to the cooking time.
